More With The Tweaking

I changed fumbles forced from 3 pts to 2 pts, and fumble recovery from 4 pts to 3 pts.

That should be it. I'm feeling pretty happy with where the modifiers are right now. If anyone has issues with scoring, now is the time to say something. I'll listen. I might not change anything, but I will consider what anyone has to say.

My concerns will now change to draft date and time. To recap the schedule requests I have so far...

Tony not available Aug 17th - Aug 24th. Prefers a week later than Aug 20th.

Erik prefers not Labor Day Weekend which is Fri Sept 2nd through Mon Sept 5th.

I.D Ahow Jr (Will? Or Breck? I don't know who that is.) prefers not Aug 20th at 6:30.

Daryl doesn't give a shit as long as he knows in advance.

The regular season starts September 8th.

Uhmmm...What about Sat Aug 27th at 8:30 pm CST.

Divisions and Franchises

A couple of questions because I have been perusing the features available. I was the first commissioner of this league, and it has changed A LOT.

We could have two divisions. I don't know how it would work exactly, if it is only for playoff purposes or if it determines the schedule all season long or what. I should of probably looked into that before asking this question...Do you want divisions in our league?

The other question is franchises and keepers. Apparently if we have franchises, then our league members are automatically set each year, and if someone does want to drop out, we just transfer the ownership of the team to a new person. The best thing about franchises though, is that we can TRADE NEXT YEARS DRAFT PICKS. So...if you really want Tom Brady, you can offer me Matt Hasselbeck and your next years 5th round draft pick. The other thing is being able to keep players. Suppose I draft Tom Brady this year...he would be a permanent part of my team until I cut him, even next year and the year after that. He would be one of my keepers.

Couple of more final tweaks

Team sacks are now 1 while IDP sacks are 2.

Turnover return yards are now 15 yds per 1 point, they were at 10.

The bonus for QB 40+ yd completion now 1 pt. It was .50 pt before.

The bonus for a QB throwing for 500 yds is now 10 pts. Never gonna happen though. Unless the NE Tom Brady's play the Buffalo Don't Have Players this year. Do they play this year?


And that oughta be the last tweak.....for now.

Sorta Final Tweeks

I found the time this evening to consider every category and every request while poring over the modifier adjustment setting page thing. I tried to make a final decision about every category and every stat. Please go look at it, you know how to find it. Feel free to comment in the comments if you disagree with something. Really.

Some thoughts:

There are a bunch of 'new/we haven't used them before' settings. Stuff like defensive yards allowed, and the three layers of bonuses for offensive players. I tried to use all of them I could. That would seem to fit in with what I agree is a fun bizarro scoring system. I did not use the Completion/Incompletion stats.

Notice that rushing yards are 1 pt per 10 yds. Thats heavy, admittedly. I think first downs on the ground are very valuable and want to apply weight accordingly. Bonuses are a little easier to obtain and more valuable for RB's. I want to see RB's posting similar scores to WR's.

Notice that QB's get 30 yds per point now. Thats pretty stingy, admittedly. It should bring down some of the astronomical QB scores we have seen.

Return yards are set to 15 yds. per point. I don't know what to think about this one, admittedly. It would seem to make teams at least consider starting a guy strictly for his return abilities, either in an offensive or defensive slot.

I tweaked the DEF settings a little bit here and there, because I thought some didn't make sense. Sacks got reduced and balanced with team Def settings.

A 4th down stop earns a team D 3 points.

Team D forcing a 3 and Out earns 1 point.

A tackle for a loss gets a team D 2 points.

An IDP gets 1 point for a tackle for loss.


I like the Defensive Yards Allowed stat and want to use it. I think DYA is a good stat, and a way to reward a good defense. A lot of times good defenses are the victims of their own offense, and this would seem to negate some of that effect. I also think it is a great way to punish a bad defense.

Notice that if any Def holds a team to negative yards, the bonus is 15 points. A big crazy bonus that will never happen.

Notice that if a QB throws for 500, the bonus is 5. I would be open to boosting that to 10 or 15 in the interest of making it a zany bonus that might not happen.

I reduced the D players from 3 to 2 and made them any D player. We used to have a DB/DL system that I found frustrating.

All flex positions are WR/RB/TE.

I reduced the bench by one. We now have 6 bench spots.

Rushing Modifiers

Notice that rushing attempts are now worth .25 pts. This is new. Also new is 40+ yd rushing attempts are worth a 3 point bonus. I don't know if the entry for 40+ yd TD is a bonus or something in place of the normal TD score. Need to figure that one out...

Rushing is currently set at 15 yds per point, I want to set it at 10 yds per point. Thereby making rushing yards very valuable, as valuable as WR's who get points for every reception plus they produce greater average yardage per touch. RB's should be scoring similarly to WR's, and I think this may be an equalizer.

I need a single place to record all the requests/opinions of the managers. This is it.

Erik: I was going to suggest dump Yahoo for ESPN because it has punting as a category which I think would be awesome for our baroque points system......Anyway, short of adding the punters or some other obscure way of scoring, I mostly like how we have it, especially the negative pts on QBs. I would definitely be open to limiting WR blowup points, as you all have said.


Daryl: I am in favor of reducing PPR by a fraction, but not limiting it altogether, nor reducing the overall complication of the league, which is what makes our league so much fun.

Breck: I am frightened by change the way a big, dumb dog is frightened by thunder, and I like the way our current system spreads points around. On the other hand, I hate it when all those points bukkake on one team that has multiple flavor-of-the-week receivers, though. It can be a very feast-or-famine scoring scheme, but I don't think putting more weight on the RBs would alleviate that aspect of it.

Rob: I like that we are a PPR league that is less RB-centric than most others. I would hate to lose that aspect of the thing. AND: I like the scoring as is, but you fascists all seem to hate my freedom as embodied by huge point totals. So yes, I am good with a fractional PPR reduction. Also, I think the INT penalty for the poor QB's is a bit severe, but it isn't a big sticking point for me if you all love it. And I vote to stay with Yahoo.

Will: Have to agree with Rob that this league's bizarro scoring is what makes it fun and different than most other leagues.

I'm okay with the flex mods. I kind of liked the increased number of Defensive players, but I'm really not married to it -- more like a fun little tsotchke.

More tweaking

I've been fiddling with the modifiers. Especially take a look at the QB stats. A completion still nets 1 pt, while and incompletion nets -.25. Passing yardage has been upped to 40 yds per point. The penalty for interceptions has been reduced to -4.

Roster Positions

I changed the roster to reflect this:

QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, W/R/T, W/R/T, W/R/T, K, DEF, D, D, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN

Notice I have changed the 3 flex positions to true flex. This is different than the previous system of 1 flex WR/TE and 2 flex WR/RB.

I have reduced the number of defensive players by 1 and made them any D player, where previously we had 1 D, 1DB, and 1DL.

And that's all I changed.

Any comments are welcome.
